Sutent Heart & Liver Injury Lawsuits
Research shows the anticancer drug sunitinib malate—sold under the brand name Sutent—might cause deadly side effects, such as arterial thrombotic events, congestive heart failure and liver failure.
What Is Sutent and What Is It Prescribed For?
Sutent is the brand name for the drug sunitinib malate. Made and sold by the American pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer, Inc., this prescription medication is used to treat gastrointestinal cancer, kidney cancer, and neuroendocrine tumors. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Sutent in 2006, and Pfizer sells it in oral tablets taken daily.
In cancer cells, chemicals called “tyrosine kinases” can promote the cancer’s spread. Sutent is a “tyrosine kinase inhibitor” that interferes with tyrosine kinases’ ability to help kidney and other cancers grow.
Sutent Might Cause Deadly Side Effects
According to research discussed in an article published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Sutent might cause the following side effects:
- Arterial thrombotic events;
