Stryker Rejuvenate Modular Hip Stem Recall

On July 6, 2012 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) publicized a Stryker hip replacement recall of its Rejuvenate Modular hip stem. If you or a loved one received a Rejuvenate Modular and believe it caused an injury, contact the Rottenstein Law Group for a free, confidential legal consultation immediately. We will evaluate your case and remain on the lookout for additional Stryker recall announcements and Stryker hip replacement lawsuit information.

What Is The Stryker Rejuvenate Modular Hip Stem?

Unlike other metal-on-metal hip replacements, the Stryker Rejuvenate Modular hip stem features an interchangeable component between what would be the ball of the thigh bone and its stem, referred to as a “modular neck.” Adding this feature allows surgeons to adjust the size and length of the hip replacement to match the patient’s body by choosing the appropriate modular neck, and it eases the surgical process when compared to non-modular hip replacements.

The Stryker Rejuvenate Modular Hip Stem Has Been Recalled

In July 2012, Stryker announced it was recalling the Rejuvenate Modular hip stem because research discovered metal fretting and corrosion occurred at the modular neck junctions. Stryker claimed it was concerned that metal degradation could cause the following two adverse tissue reactions:

  • Pain
  • Swelling

Stryker does not believe that the Stryker hip side effects are common.
