If you are looking for information on how to file a lawsuit to obtain compensation for injuries you believe you sustained as a result of using a Mirena IUD, you’ve come to the right place.
The Mirena IUD, a birth control device that is inserted into the uterus through the vagina, has been identified as a possible cause of uterine wall perforations, pelvic inflammatory disease, sepsis, and other dangerous conditions. The product information for the Mirena IUD also indicates that, if a woman becomes pregnant when using the device, her offspring might be at risk of sustaining Mirena IUD birth defects.
This law firm, the Rottenstein Law Group, is representing women who are demanding compensation because they used Mirena IUDs and suffered these and other serious side effects.
Mirena IUD Settlements and Mirena IUD Lawsuits
Because Mirena IUD lawsuits are currently in the early stages, there are currently no reports yet of settlements. However, there are lawsuits in several states in which plaintiffs are seeking compensation for their injuries. In New Jersey state court alone, there are at least 16 lawsuits alleging the Mirena IUD caused serious injuries, including perforations to women’s uteruses. In August 2012, Bayer moved the New Jersey Supreme Court to centralize those cases into one multicounty litigation proceeding in Middlesex County. In January 2013 the state’s Supreme Court denied the pharmaceutical maker’s consolidation request, according to a Jan. 8 notice from Glenn A. Grant, acting administrative director of the New Jersey Supreme Court.
In late 2012, still other Mirena IUD injury claims were filed in federal courts in Ohio and California. The Ohio plaintiff is seeking monetary compensation, including punitive damages, for injuries she suffered as a result of her Mirena IUD perforating her uterus, migrating, and becoming embedded near her liver.
On April 8, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation assigned all pending Mirena lawsuits filed in federal courts to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Judge Cathy Seibel will oversee and coordinate the pretrial proceedings for these cases.
